Education
Danny’s path to founding Wasatch General Counsel began as an undergraduate at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, where he obtained an honors degree in neuroscience. Danny’s education focused on cellular neuroscience in particular, along with the humanities curriculum of the Westminster Honors College. During that time, Danny also worked as a medical scribe for emergency room physicians treating patients at a level I trauma center in Salt Lake City.
Following his interests, Danny then obtained a masters in business administration from the same institution, and gained experience in the intermountain venture community working for Salt Lake City and Park City based investor syndicates and accelerators.
Danny’s experience in the venture community encouraged him to then enter law school at the University of Utah, where he was an Articles Editor on the Utah Law Review, served as Senator for the College of Law in the Associated Students of the University of Utah, and graduated with high honors. During law school, Danny interned for Judge Carolyn B. McHugh on the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Experience
Danny began his legal career as a registered patent attorney in a small Salt Lake City law firm, where he prosecuted patents in the semiconductor, software, and wireless technology space on behalf of a fortune 500 company. Danny then moved to a mid-size intellectual property boutique with offices in Utah and California, where he litigated intellectual property and complex business disputes in federal and state courts, and provided intellectual property advice to growing ventures.
As a litigator, Danny was trial counsel in a multi-million dollar trademark suit before the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, obtained dismissal of copyright infringement claims against Michaels Stores, Inc. before the United States District Court for the District of Utah (subsequently solidifying 10th Circuit copyright law on appeal), and defended a fortune 500 semiconductor manufacturer against multi-million dollar breach of contract claims before the Superior Court of California for the County of Santa Clara.
Seeking to build something, Danny then went in-house at Blackrock Neurotech, a leading brain computer interface hardware manufacturer with over 30 human brain computer interface implants. There, Danny successfully negotiated multiple intellectual property licenses with Stanford, Columbia, and the University of Utah, for cutting edge brain computer interface technology developed using Blackrock Neurotech’s hardware. Danny was also involved in several mergers and acquisitions at Blackrock Neurotech, including its acquisition of MindX, an A.I. and spatial computing software company.
